Advocating for Nature Through Art

Nature has always been at the heart of my work. Every collection begins with careful observation of the plants, wildlife and landscapes that inspire me. As SassiNiemand continues to grow, I want some of that artwork to do more than celebrate nature. I want it to help advocate for it too.

This page brings together the conservation projects, voluntary giving and nature-inspired collections that form part of that commitment. As the initiative grows, new projects and conservation giving updates will be added here.

Why This Matters

I came across a term ecological misanthropy. While it may sound severe, the idea behind it resonated with me: the growing sadness and frustration many people feel when they witness the continuing loss of wildlife and the damage being done to the natural world.

My creative process is always grounded in the outdoors, beginning with observation, curiosity and my phone close at hand to capture those moments of inspiration before they disappear. That same appreciation for nature has gradually grown into a desire for my artwork to do more than celebrate the natural world. I hope it also encourages people to value and protect it.

This way of thinking has grown gradually through experiences that have deepened my appreciation for conservation, from supporting initiatives such as the Sea Change Project to being inspired by My Octopus Teacher and, more recently, Remarkably Bright Creatures. Together, they reinforced something I had already begun to feel: that creativity can be more than an expression of beauty. It can also be a way of encouraging people to value the natural world.

Advocating for Nature Through Art is my commitment to bringing those two passions together. It is about creating artwork that celebrates nature while, wherever possible, helping to raise awareness and support conservation through carefully chosen projects and voluntary giving.

How SassiNiemand Will Support Nature

This commitment will continue to grow over time, but it is built around a few simple principles.

Celebrating nature through design will always remain at the heart of my work. Every collection is created to encourage people to notice the beauty, diversity and remarkable details of the natural world.

Supporting conservation where possible is an important part of this journey. Selected artworks and products will form part of my Art for Nature initiative, helping to raise awareness of wildlife, habitats and the natural world. As part of my wider commitment to conservation, SassiNiemand will also make voluntary donations from artist earnings to carefully chosen organisations and projects working to protect wildlife and natural habitats. I will share the organisations supported and the contributions SassiNiemand has made.

Sharing knowledge and practical action is another part of this commitment. Through my blog and Nature Notes, I hope to encourage simple ways that we can all help wildlife, whether that’s creating wildlife-friendly gardens, supporting conservation projects or making small changes that benefit the environment.

Choosing where to give carefully is an important part of this commitment. I want to support conservation organisations and projects whose work genuinely reflects the wildlife, habitats and environmental causes that inspire my art.

Current Conservation Projects

Selected Art for Nature collections and products are featured below, each inspired by wildlife, habitats or conservation stories that I want to help bring greater attention to. As the initiative develops, I will also share the conservation organisations SassiNiemand has supported through voluntary donations from my artist earnings.

Transparency

Art for Nature is my way of using selected SassiNiemand artwork to advocate for the natural world and to give something back. When SassiNiemand makes a voluntary conservation donation, I will clearly share which organisation has been supported and the amount contributed. Transparency matters to me because trust is just as important as good intentions.
