Some Creative Design challenges are worth their weight in gold …

Over four weeks during the Winter and Summer season, Make it In Design hosts a creative design school or challenge. Creatives like myself, take part from all over the world. As a result, there is a lovely community spirit.

In the first and third week trend design briefs, given by Sarah Porter and Victoria Brawn (of Porter and Brawn) are released. Three categories, namely – Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced – are available to work on. You can choose which category/level you’d like to participate in, for a small fee. I think it really is worth joining.

My first time …

I participated in 2021, for the first time (Summer School 2021). After that I was hooked. Each year since then I have joined and participated. I usually select all 3 categories.

To participate, research, planning and creating is involved. Mood boards set the scene. Key words organise ideas. And Make it in Design also provides other creative activities or tasks. These activities encourage us to to explore different mediums for creating art. Room for self development and exploration of various art mediums. Always a good thing!

Some of my best …

Some of my best creative work comes from doing these design and creative challenges. I’m proud to say that, a few of my designs, over the past few years have been selected as entry winners. The winning designs can see seen under my Highlights Menu tab. I’ve also had the pleasure of licensing some of these designs too. Others are my best seller’s on the print on designs (POD) sites that I sell on.

Featured Design

The Featured design, Boisterous Poppy Blooms was created from one of my favourite briefs, called Boisterous Blooms. I’m proud to say, it was chosen as a top pick by Porter and Brawn. In their words it –  demonstrated commercial viability and perfectly answered the brief.”

Working on trend briefs, researching and planning really helps my design work. I enjoy creative challenges. And will continue to use these as a way to keep on learning and improving.
