Have you ever struggled to name your Business?

Mine took some time to evolve
SassiNiemand began …
A long long time ago, in land far far away … haha had you fooled didn’t I? Not a story like that – but it did begin with me, writing a story.
But before I get into that, let me share something I remember reading on the topic of naming things. In this case, naming your dog. And it’s from Garfield the cat’s perspective – yes the cartoon character – Written by James Robert Davis
It’s something that stuck in my mind since reading it as a child. And I’ve often thought of it when actually naming a dog, or two over the years. SO this was in the back of my mind when I went down the rabbit hole of what to call my business. Especially as I did not really want it to be just my last name, and definitely not my first either. Both have been problematic for pronunciation and spelling through the years in living in various countries.
“A rose, by any other name would smell as sweet” – William Shakespeare
Garfield, said something along these lines … When naming your dog you’ll have to think carefully about it, as you’ll be shouting it down the road when it runs off. (Of course in Garfield’s words too – he mentioned that hot dogs are the best kind of dogs … but I digress)
So in keeping Garfield’s wise words of wisdom … which promptly ignored anyway, came about as a result of my book.
Yes, I published a book. And incidentally I also illustrated it. Which is how I got into surface pattern design too.
It, the book, was published for tween readers (ages 7 to 12) and has the name SASSI in its title.
SASSI – has a duel purpose – the first of which comes from my book (Sassi and the Squirrel’s Feather – a novel for tweens) and is an acronym which stands for:
Socks and Astrid’s Secret Service Investigations. (SASSI)
The second (going back to duel) part that influenced my choice of this as a business name falls on the fact that I am a tad sarcastic, (insert wicked laughter here) and with that comes sass right? So Sassi it was/is.
The last half of my business name is my surname (last name), Niemand – which when translated into English means Nobody.
So that’s me – A sassy (SASSI)/sarcastic Nobody! … Sassi + Niemand.
